This Standard was prepared by the Standards Austral ia Committee on Platforms,Gangways,

Stairways and Ladders, to supersede AS 1657-1985.

SECTION 1 SCOPEAND GENERAL

1 .1 SCOPE This Standard sets out requirements for the design,construction,and instal lationof fixed platforms,walkways,stairways,and ladders which are intended to provide means ofsafe access to and safe working at places normal ly used by operating, inspection,maintenance,and servicing personnel .

范围。本《标准》规定了固定平台、走道、楼梯和梯子的设计、施工和安装要求。这些设施旨在为操作、检查、维修和服务人员提供安全进入工作场所并在其中安全工作的方式。

The Standard does not apply to situations where special provision is made in appropriate bui lding orother regulations,e.g.means of escape from fire.Requirements for portable ladders are not includedin this Standard.

1 .2 APPLICATION The design, construction, and stairway, instal lation of a platform, walkway,or ladder shal l comply with the appropriate specific requirements of Section 2 and therequirements for the type of structure,as fol lows:
