SPSS Statistical Services introduces SPSS analytical functionalityacross a number of points within the SQL Server developmentenvironment.

Business intelligence development studio

SQL Server will deliver an end-to-end business intelligence platformwith integrated SPSS analytics. The SPSS functionality will be availablefor use in Analysis Services and Integration Services (formerly DTS) .

Analysis Services

Database professionals will be able to draw upon the analyticalfunctionality of SPSS for Windowswhen working within Analysis Services.After a Data Source View is set, the full data explorationand analyticalfunctionality of SPSS will be available to database professionals. Thisfunctionality enables them to get a comprehensive understanding of thestructure of their data and to extract the historical, real-time, andpredictive information required to best design predictive models andOLAP cubes using Analysis Services.

SPSS Statistical Services will include default exploration andanalysis templates to allow database professionals to quickly beginusing this product within Analysis Services. The SPSS StatisticalServices analysis templates can be created or modified by the user tosuit the specifics of their project.

Integration Services

SPSS Statistical Services integrates SPSS functionalityat the DataFlowlevel within Integration Services. Database professionals can utilizeSPSS functionality directly within the Integration Services environmentto explore, prepare, and analyze data using SPSS functionality, withouthaving move to and from other tools.

The direct integration of SPSS Statistical Services at the DataFlowlevel also allows the deployment of Integration Services projectscontaining SPSS predictive analytics. SPSS Statistical Services willinclude integrated functionality in the following areas:

 Dataaccess. Directlyaccess native SPSS datafiles for use in theBusiness Intelligence Development Studio.

 Data Exploration. Explore the complete dataset, or a sample, usingSPSS for Windows directly from Analysis Services or IntegrationServices. Exploration that will beavailable using SPSS canextendfrom simple frequencies and means to complex analyses of the datato uncover patterns.

 Data Transformation. Access an extensive library oftransformation functions within Integration Services, includingarithmetic, statistical, and distribution functions. These can beused directly within the Data Flow and deployed as part ofdeveloped applications.

 Data Analysis. Conduct analysis using SPSS for Windows fromAnalysis Services, or by including SPSS analytical componentswithin the Data Flow in Integration Services.

 Results. Directly save changes to data inAnalysis Services usingSPSS for Windows back to the Data Source View. Route output fromSPSS destination node components in Integration Services to HTML,XML, Text, Tabtext, or the native SPSS data file.
