5PersonnelqualificationVisualtestingofweldsandtheevaluationofresultsforfinalacceptanceshallbeperformedbyqualifiedandcapablepersonnel.
ItisrecommendedthatthepersonnelperformingindirectvisualtestingisqualifiedaccordingtoISO9712oratanappropriatelevelintherelevantindustrysector.
6Visualtesting6.
1GeneralThisdocumentdoesnotdefinetheextentofvisualtesting.
However,thisshouldbedeterminedinadvance,e.

byreferencetoanapplicationorproductstandard.
Theexaminershallhaveaccesstothenecessaryinspectionandproductiondocumentationrequired.
Anyvisualtestingpriorto,duringoraftercompletionoftheweldshouldbecarriedoutwhilephysicalaccessisstillpossible.
Thismayincludethevisualtestingofsurfacetreatments.

2VisualtestingofjointpreparationWhenvisualtestingisrequiredpriortowelding,thejointshallbeexaminedtocheckthefollowing:a)theshapeanddimensionsoftheweldpreparationmeettherequirementsoftheweldingprocedurespecification;b)thefusionfacesandadjacentsurfacesarecleanandanyrequiredsurfacetreatmenthasbeencarriedoutinaccordancewiththeapplicationorproductstandard;c)thepartstobeweldedarecorrectlyfixedinrelationtoeachotheraccordingtodrawingsorinstructions.

3VisualtestingduringweldingWhenrequired,theweldshallbetestedduringtheweldingprocesstocheckthefollowing:a)eachrunorlayerofweldmetaliscleanedbeforeitiscoveredbyafurtherrun,particularattentionbeingpaidtothejunctionsbetweentheweldmetalandthefusionface;b)therearenovisibleimperfections,e.

cracksorcavities;ifimperfectionsareobserved,theyshallbereportedsothatremedialactioncanbetakenbeforethedepositionoffurtherweldmetal;c)thetransitionbetweentherunsandbetweentheweldandtheparentmetalissoformedthatsatisfactorymeltingcanbeaccomplishedwhenweldingthenextrun;d)thedepthandshapeofgougingisinaccordancewiththeWPSorcomparedwiththeoriginalgrooveshapeinordertoensurecompleteremovaloftheweldmetalasspecified;e)afteranynecessaryrepairs/remedialaction,theweldconformstotheoriginalrequirementsoftheWPS.
