INTRODUCTIONInlinewiththeincreasingneedsofthedevelopingworld,ithasbecomeanecessitytoobtainmorereliableandcontinuousmeteorologicaldataandtransferthesedatainduecoursetothosewhoareconcerned.
Todaymanysectorssuchasaviation,transportation,agriculture,construction,tourism,health,justice,security,nationaldefence,writtenandvisualpress,andsportsareverymuchinneedofmeteorologicaldatasupport.
TurkishStateMeteorologicalService(TSMS)startedin1997themodernisationstudiesofmeteorologicalsystems,preparedinvestmentsprojectsofgreatimportanceandgotdowntoexecutionofthemataveryhighspeedwithaviewtorenderingthebestservicetoalluserswhodemandmeteorologicalsupport,andfurnishtheuserswithmorereliabledatacontinuallyandtoputtotheserviceofthedomesticandinternationaluserstheproductsandinnovationsdevelopedbymoderntechnologyinthefieldofmeteorology.
Oneofthosemodernisationstudiesistherenovationoftheexistingobservationnetworkandestablishmentofautomatedmeasuringandreportingsystems,i.

MODERNIZATIONSTUDIESMODERNIZATIONSTUDIESAfterstartingthemodernizationprogramin1997,stationsinthewesternpartofTurkeyhavebeenequippedwithautomatedweatherobservingsystems,weatherradarsandsatellitebasedcommunicationsystem(VSAT).
Thosestudiesarestillinprogressandremainpartofthenetworkisplannedtobeequippedwithautomatedsystemsby2010.
Someoftheproposedsystemswithinthescopeofmodernizationprogramhavealreadybeeninstalledandputintotheservice.
