16VAV-SVN01E-ENUnitInformationSingle-DuctUnitsThebasicunitconsistsofasheetmetalcasingwithanairvalve,whichisusedtomodulatetheairbeingdeliveredintotheoccupiedzone.
Theunitisdesignedtomodulateeithercoolingorheatingairbetweenthetemperaturesof40°Fand140°F.
Airenterstheairvalvethroughtheroundorrectangularinletandexitsintothesheetmetalcasingtobedistributedtothezoneeitherthroughintegralroundoutletsinthecasingorthroughrectangularductattachedtothedischargeoftheunit.
Thebasicunitcanalsobeorderedwithfactory-mountedelectricorhotwaterheatingcoilsattachedtothedischarge.

Whenthecoolingvalvebecomesfullyclosedorreachesaspecifiedminimum,thentheheatingvalvewillbegintomodulateorviceversa.
Thetypicalresultisthatairflowingtothezonevariesfromthemaximumdowntoaminimumandbackuptoamaximumastheloadvariesandasthecontrolswouldcauseoneairvalvetocloseandtheothertoopen.
Anothertypicalapplicationiswhentheunitprovidesaconstantvolumetothezone.
Whenthezonesensoristieddirectlytotheheatingvalve,itwillmodulatetheheatingvalveaccordingtothezonetemperature.
Whentheheatingvalveisfullyclosedorthereisacallforcoolinginthezone,thecoolingvalvewillbeatconstantsupply.
Asthespacebecomestoocool,theheatingvalvewillmodulateopen,decreasingthecoolingvalveflow.
Thetypicalresultisthattheairflowingintothezonestaysataconstantflowwhethertheunitisheatingorcooling.

Typically,theheaterisoffwhiletheairvalvemodulatesprimaryairandrespondstozonetemperature.
Ifzonetemperaturedecreasestothepointwhereadecreaseinprimaryairwillnotmaintainthedesiredtemperature,there-heatwillbeactivatedtoincreasethetemperatureofthedischargeair.
Onaparallelunit,theVariTraneairvalvedeliversprimarycoolingairtotheunitoutlet.
Whenthespacetemperaturedecreasesbeyondairvalvecontrol,thefanisturnedonasthefirststageofheat.
Thefandeliversplenumairfromabovetheoccupiedspacetotheunitoutlet,whichismixedwithprimaryairanddeliveredtotheoccupiedspace.
Note:Eitherthefan,theairvalve,orbothcandeliverairflowintotheoccupiedspace.
Inordertopreventprimaryairflowfromexitingthroughthefanwhenthefanisnotrunningonaparallelunit,abackdraftdamperisprovided.
Whenthefanisnotrunning,theefficiencyofthissystemisthesameasastandardsingle-ductVAVunit.
Typically,thecontrolsystemsappliedtoparallelunitscausetheairvalvetoclosetozerooraminimumflowbeforethefanisactivated.
Afterthefanisactivated,theoptionalheatwillbeactivateduponfurtherreductioninzonetemperature.
Therefore,minimalprimaryairismixedwiththeheatedair.

Removingthehousingwillprovideaccesstothemotorshaftsetscrewthatholdsthefanwheeltothemotorshaft.
Thelow-heightfanassemblywasdesignedwithaninletringthatassistswithremovalofthefanmotor.
Toaccessthefanmotorassembly,thebottompanelmustberemoved.
Theinletringisheldinplacebysixboltsandthreemotormountbolts.
Removetheseboltsandthemotorandfanwheelwillcomeoutofthefanhousing.
