Diamond-coppercompositesareobtainedfrommonodispersefillershavingthefollowingcharacteristics:-thermalconductivityisupto800-900W/(m*K)fordiamondparticlesof200-400mkmsize;-diamondvolumefraction~62%;-compositedensity~5,5g/cm3;-coefficientofthermalexpansion5ppm/Kat20qCand8ppm/Kat200qC;-longitudinalspeedofsound~9km/s;-Youngmodulus~300GPa;-specificelectricalresistivity5-10mkcm.
Forcomparison,thethermalconductivityofcopperis390W/(mK).
Inregardtotheircharacteristicstheobtainedmaterialsdonotinferiortoorsuperiorthediamond-metalcompositesfabricatedbyallotherknownmeans(pressure-assistedinfiltrationofcopperalloyscontainingcarbide-formingadditives;sinteringwithcopperorinfiltrationathighpressuresmorethan1GPa).
Thediamond-coppercompositematerialismadebyamethodofcapillary(spontaneous)infiltrationofcoppermeltinabedofdiamondparticleswithpreliminaryappliedcoatingofcarbide-formingmetal.
Thecoatingthicknessisabout100-300nm.
Rawmaterialsareavailable(powdersofsyntheticdiamondandcopper,alloysarenotused).
Theinfiltrationiscarriedduringshorttime(severalminutes)andtheprocesshasalmostnorestrictionsastotheformandsizesofproductitems.
Theproductscanbemanufacturedinfinalorclosetothefinalformandcanhavecavities,ledgesandthroughaperturesinthem.
Theproductmaterialcanbeeasilyjointedtootherconstructiveelementsbymeansofsoldering.
