inadequate,al-thoughweknowitisabouttheaveragepaidbysuchinstitutions.
Thepleasingfictionthatthemedicalofficerofasocietyofthiskindisusuallycalledintoattendthefamilyofthemembersasprivatepatientsmaylookverywellonpaperbutwecanassureourcorrespondentthatithasnofoundationinfacl;havinghadoverwhelmingevidencetothecontraryfromnumerousofficersofotherinstitutionsofasimilarcharacterwemustconfesstoquitetheoppositeopinion.
Wegrantthattherewasatime,sometwentyorthirtyyearsago,whenthismighthavebeeninsomemeasuretrue,butsincethemultiplicationofcheapdispensaries,hospitalout-patientdepartments,etc.
,ithasbeenfarmoreusualformembersofbenefitsocietiesandotherinsuranceasso-ciationstoactonthesameprincipleinobtainingmedicalattendancefortheirfamilies,asintheirowncase,namely,togetitascheaplyaspossible.
Astowagelimit,Mr.
Greenwoodsays:"ItisImpossibletodealwiththismatterwithourmembers,suchaswarehousemenandcleiks,whointhemajorityofcasesonlyearningsmallsalarieshavefamiliestomaintain.
'Buthowabouttheothers,"inasplendidposition"Wemustalsoprotestagainstthesideissueraised,byimputingdoubtfulmotivestoourcorrespondentoflastweek.
Doubtlessifhe'hadbecome"oneofthemedicalstaff"weshould"neverhaveheardofthematter,"atleastfromhim.
Still,ifweGrantthis,itdoesnotf6llowth*4twailtofawagelimitisnota,seriousblotontheorganisationofthisAssociation,aswepointedoutlastweek.
Weareverypleasedtohearthatoutofamembershipof5,200thereareonly38memberswhowishfortheservicesofhomceopathicpracti-tionersasthisaffordsevidenceofthegenerallyhealthytoneofthepublicinthisrespect.
Neverthelesswecannothelpexpressingoursurprisethatforthesakeofsosmallacontingentthisinstitutionshouldhavethoughtitdesirabletoadoptsodoubtfulapolicyastoendeavourtoenrolhomceopathicpractitionersamongitsmedicaloffi-cers.
Webelievethatsuchanexperimenthasnothihertobeentried,andweshallwatchtheresultwithconsiderableinterest.

FrancisWarner,oneoftheconsultingstaffoftheAssociationreferredto.

WehavealwaysbenumdertheimpresionthaiturppxofeRsioBdidnotassociatewithhomoeopaths-thatthepracticeofso-called"hommeo-pathy"wasnotconsideredtobealegitimatebranchofmedicine.

lcersprofessedhowqeopathsisnotassociatingwiththemThereisnothingintheruIesimpyngthathomceopathicpatientscannotclaimtheservicesoftheconsultingstaff;ratherthereverse,aswefindnohomceopathicconsultantonthelist.
Neitherdowethinkthemattercanbesoreadilydismissedwiththecasualremarkthatthis"isbuttheaffairofthemembers.
"Eitherhomceopathsoughttobeadmittedintotheranksoftheprofessionortheyoughtnottobe;ifthelatterpropositionistherightonewecannothelpthinkingtheleadersoftheprofessionat,leastshoulabemostcarefulastotheexampletheyset.
ItappearstousthatallDr.
WarnerurgeswouldapplyequaXivifthisAssociationweretoappointherbalists,orbonesetters,oranyotherclassofirregularpractitioners,forsuchoftheirmembersasmightdesiretoemploytheirservices.
Althoughweareawarethatherealegalquestionmightarise,fromaprofessionalpointofviewthereisverylittledifference,andthematermightjustasreadilybe-dis-missed,asbeing"1onlytheaffairofthemembers.

Ifwegrantthatmedicalaidisabsolutelynecessarytoallclassesofsociety,thatowingtowidespreadpovertythismustbeafordedatarpmunerationwithinthemeansoftherecipient,doesItfollowthatwithall'ourwealthofhospitalsandcharitableinstitutionsthereisthesamenecessityforthereductionofconsultantfeesArewetoexpectinthenotremotefuturethateveryclubandbenefitsocietywillhaveattachedtoitsordinarymedicaldepartmentamachineryforsupplyingconsuiltantstothemembersat,wepresume,correspondinglyreducedfeesFromwhateverpointofviewweregardit,itishardlylikelytoaddtothedignityoftheconsultantbranchoftheprofession;norcanwebelievethatifthetwenty-secondannual-reportofthe-NEWNAmESFORPARISIANSTREETS.
THEMunicipalCouncilofParisisagainengagedinitsfavouriteworkofrenamingstreets.

Noneofthesymptomsgivenwouldcontraindicatealveolarabscessexceptingthelachrymationandthedischargefromthenose(forwhichtheconditionofthenasalcavitywouldfullyaccount),andnonearesymptomaticofempyemaoftheantrum.
Theterminationofthecase,moreover,isalmostcharacter-isticofalveolarabscess,forIdonotbelievethereisanotherrecordedinstanceofanantralempyemadischargingitselfspontaneously"some-whereaboutthesituationofwherethefirstanasecondmolarteethshouldhavebeen,"unlesstheempyemawereconsequentuponanalveolarabscess.
