Thepleasingfictionthatthemedicalofficerofasocietyofthiskindisusuallycalledintoattendthefamilyofthemembersasprivatepatientsmaylookverywellonpaperbutwecanassureourcorrespondentthatithasnofoundationinfacl;havinghadoverwhelmingevidencetothecontraryfromnumerousofficersofotherinstitutionsofasimilarcharacterwemustconfesstoquitetheoppositeopinion.
Wegrantthattherewasatime,sometwentyorthirtyyearsago,whenthismighthavebeeninsomemeasuretrue,butsincethemultiplicationofcheapdispensaries,hospitalout-patientdepartments,etc.
,ithasbeenfarmoreusualformembersofbenefitsocietiesandotherinsuranceasso-ciationstoactonthesameprincipleinobtainingmedicalattendancefortheirfamilies,asintheirowncase,namely,togetitascheaplyaspossible.

Greenwoodsays:"ItisImpossibletodealwiththismatterwithourmembers,suchaswarehousemenandcleiks,whointhemajorityofcasesonlyearningsmallsalarieshavefamiliestomaintain.

Neverthelesswecannothelpexpressingoursurprisethatforthesakeofsosmallacontingentthisinstitutionshouldhavethoughtitdesirabletoadoptsodoubtfulapolicyastoendeavourtoenrolhomceopathicpractitionersamongitsmedicaloffi-cers.
Webelievethatsuchanexperimenthasnothihertobeentried,andweshallwatchtheresultwithconsiderableinterest.
