Thepleasingfictionthatthemedicalofficerofasocietyofthiskindisusuallycalledintoattendthefamilyofthemembersasprivatepatientsmaylookverywellonpaperbutwecanassureourcorrespondentthatithasnofoundationinfacl;havinghadoverwhelmingevidencetothecontraryfromnumerousofficersofotherinstitutionsofasimilarcharacterwemustconfesstoquitetheoppositeopinion.
Wegrantthattherewasatime,sometwentyorthirtyyearsago,whenthismighthavebeeninsomemeasuretrue,butsincethemultiplicationofcheapdispensaries,hospitalout-patientdepartments,etc.
,ithasbeenfarmoreusualformembersofbenefitsocietiesandotherinsuranceasso-ciationstoactonthesameprincipleinobtainingmedicalattendancefortheirfamilies,asintheirowncase,namely,togetitascheaplyaspossible.
Astowagelimit,Mr.
Greenwoodsays:"ItisImpossibletodealwiththismatterwithourmembers,suchaswarehousemenandcleiks,whointhemajorityofcasesonlyearningsmallsalarieshavefamiliestomaintain.

Weareverypleasedtohearthatoutofamembershipof5,200thereareonly38memberswhowishfortheservicesofhomceopathicpracti-tionersasthisaffordsevidenceofthegenerallyhealthytoneofthepublicinthisrespect.
Neverthelesswecannothelpexpressingoursurprisethatforthesakeofsosmallacontingentthisinstitutionshouldhavethoughtitdesirabletoadoptsodoubtfulapolicyastoendeavourtoenrolhomceopathicpractitionersamongitsmedicaloffi-cers.
Webelievethatsuchanexperimenthasnothihertobeentried,andweshallwatchtheresultwithconsiderableinterest.

Althoughweareawarethatherealegalquestionmightarise,fromaprofessionalpointofviewthereisverylittledifference,andthematermightjustasreadilybe-dis-missed,asbeing"1onlytheaffairofthemembers.
