Thatnumberisbasedontheastronomicallyhigh"marketrate"inNewYorkCity.
Somedemonstratorssaylocalelectedpoliticiansareinthepocketofthedevelopers,whilethedevelopersclaimtheyarehelpingprovideaffordablehousing.
Theyreceivetaxbreakswithoutdoinganythingtoaddressthegrowinghousingcrisisfortheworkingclass,whichinvolvesincreasinghomelessness,evictionsandracialdiscrimination.
Theprotestwascalledbyanumberoftenant,civilrightsandimmigrantorganizationstoaddressthetaxbreakgivendevelopers,calledthe421ataxabatementprogram.
Thistaxbreakisabonustorichdevelopers,asitmeansafreezeonrealestatetaxes.

Some60recoveringaddictswereremoved—inthemiddleofdetox—fromthestate'slargestsuchfacility.
Some450homelesspeoplewereforcedintoalreadyovercrowdedsheltersorontothestreet.
SafeHarbors,theonlyshelterdedi-catedtopeoplewithHIV,hasbeenshut-tered.
