Eachsideisconstructedoutoftwoplanksofpine,each36incheslong,91/4incheswideand3/4inchesthick.
Theseweregluedanddoweledtogether(seetheJointssection)toformonewidesurfaceoutofwhichthecorrectshapecanbecut.
Byreferringtotheplanindiagramone,sketchtheshapeofthesidepieceontotheplankofwood,andthencutthisshapeout,usingajigsaw.
Theexactshapeandcurveofthesidepieceisobviouslyamatterofindividualtaste,butitshouldberememberedthatdeviatingfromtheabovedesignwillchangethedimensionsoftheshelfpieces.
Whenthefirstsidehasbeencuttoshape,androughlysmoothedwithsandpaper,usethisasatemplateforcuttingoutthesecondsidepiece.
Trytoensurethatthesetwosidesareaveryclosematch,asiftheydonotthecabinetwillonviouslylookalittlelop-sided.
Oncebothsideshavebeencuttoshape,sandtheedgestoadesirablefinish,ensuringthattheystillmatcheachother.

However,thecostofacheaprouter(minecost$25inagaragesale)iswellworththeexpenseasitsavesalotoftime,andproducesanaccuratefinish.
Toensurethegroovesarestraight,clampametalrulerontothesidepiecethatcanactasaguidefortherouterbase.
Oncethethreegroovesarecut,repeatthisprocessonthesecondsidepiece,ensuringthatyoucutonthecorrect,insideface(i.

Note:thebackandthefrontshouldbethesolidsideofthepineconstruction,withonlythetopandbottomshowinganysignofthejointbetweenthetwo3/4inchthickpieces.
Thissolidpieceofwoodmustnowbeplaneddowntothesameangleasthelowest11/2inchesofthesidepieces(pleaserefertothediagramforaroughexampleofthesideprofileofthispiece).
Oncethisiscomplete,itistimetoputalloftheelementstogether.
Placewoodglueinthethreeslotsoneachsidepiece,andslidethethreeshelvesintotheseslots.
Makesurethatyoudonotconfusethebottomandmiddleshelvesastheyareverysimilardepths.
Clampthistogetherandleavetodryforseveralhours,ensuringthatthesidesareperpendiculartotheshelves.
Whendry,youcangluetheedgingstripsandthebasestripontothefrontoftheshelves,clampinginplaceagainuntildry.
Atthispoint,youhavetheshellofthefinalTVcabinetinfrontofyou,andverylittleisneededtofinishitoff.

Cutashelfoutofthe1/2inchplywoodthatis13incheswide,and101/4inchesdeep.
Again,makeafrontedgingpieceforthisshelfoutofpine,asdescribedabove,andthengluethepiecestogether.
Toattachthecableboxshelftotherestoftheunit,glueandscrewtheunittotheundersideofthetopshelf,ensuringthatthecableshelfiscentral.
