22 8分Housework is a frequent sourc e of disputes 争论 between lazy husbands and their hardworking
A study from Oxford University has found that men are unlikely to be doing an equal share of houseworkbefore 2050 Mothers the researchers warned will continue to shoulder the burden of childcare andhousework for the next four decades largely because housework such as cleaning and cooking is stillregarded as "women's work"
The gap between the amount of time men and women spend on housework has narrowed slowly over thepast 40 years But it will take another four decades before true housework equality is achieved the studyconcluded
The research found that in the Nordic countries the burden of housework is shared more equallybetween men and women In the UK women spend an average of four hours and forty minutes each day onhousework c ompared with two hours and twenty eight minutes for men This is an improvement from the1960s when British women typically spent six hours a day on housework while men spent just 90 minutesevery day
But progress towards housework equality appears to be slowing in some countries Dr Oriel Sullivana research reader from Oxford's Department of Sociology said "We've looked at what is affecting theequality in the home and we have found that certain tasks seem to be given according to whether they areviewed as ‘men's work'or ‘women's work' "
Dr Sullivan said cultural attitudes taught at school may be responsible for the views of housework "Atschool it is much easier for a girl to be a tomboy but it is much more difficult for a boy to enjoy baking anddancing " she said

A men now spend just 90 minutes a day on housework on average
B women now are too busy with their work to do housework
C women now spend less time on housework than before
D housework is shared equally between men and women
4 In Dr Sullivan's opinion what is to blame for the housework inequality

B Policies made by the government
C The time spent on work
D The type of housework
23 8分In ancient Egypt the pharaoh 法老 treated the poor message runner like a princ e when he arrivedat the palac e if he brought good new s However if the exhausted runner had the misfortune to bring thepharaoh unhappy news his head was cut off
Shades of that spirit spread over today's conversations Once a friend and I packed up some peanut butterand sandwiches for an outing As we walked light heartedly out of the door picnic basket in hand asmiling neighbor looked up at the sky and said "Oh boy bad day for a picnic Theweatherman says it'sgoing to rain " I wanted to strike him on the face with the peanut butter and sandwiches Not for his stupidweather report for his smile
Several months ago I was racing to catch a bus As I breathlessly put my handful of cash across theGreyhound c ounter the sales agent said with a broad smile "Oh that bus left five minutes ago "Dreamsof head cutting!
It's not the news that makes someone angry It's the unsympathetic attitude with which it'sdelivered Everyone must give bad news from time to time and winning professionals do it with the properattitude A doctor advising a patient that she needs an operation does it in a caring way Aboss informing anemployee he didn't get the job takes on a sympathetic tone Big winners know when delivering any badnews they should share the feeling of the receiver
Unfortunately many people are not aware of this When you're tired from a long flight has a hotelclerk cheerfully said that your room isn't ready yet When you had your heart set on the toast beef has yourwaiter merrily told you that he just served the last piece It makes you as traveler or diner want to land yourfist 拳头 right on their unsympathetic fac es
Had my neighbor told me of the upcoming rainstorm with sympathy I would have appreciated hiswarning Had the Greyhound salesclerk sympathetically informed me that my bus had already left Iprobably would have said "Oh that's all right I'll catch the next one "Big winners when they bear badnews deliver bombs with the emotion the bombarded 被轰炸的 person is sure to have

24 8分 It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life butmanners on the road are becoming horrible Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigersbehind the wheel It is all right to have a tiger in a cage but to have one in the driver's seat is another matter
Road politeness is not only good manners but good sense It takes the most coolheaded drivers greatpatience to give up the des ire to beat back when forced to face rude driving On the other hand a littlepoliteness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarrelling and fighting A friendly nod or awave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes sonecessary in modern traffic conditions But such behaviors of politeness are by no means enough Manydrivers nowadays don't even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it
However misplaced politeness can also be dangerous Typical examples are the driver who waves a
child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop intime The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to
An experienced driver whose manners are faultless told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctlyjoin in traffic stream without causing total blockages 堵塞 that give rise to unpleasantfeelings Unfortunately modern drivers can't even learn to drive let alone master the roadmanship 公路驾车技能 Years ago experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand moregiveand take from all road users It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart
1According to the passage troubles on the road are often caused by
A the great speed of modern life
B traffic jams
C terrible road conditions
D the behavior of the drivers
2 In the writer's opinion a good driver should
A beat back when forced to face rude driving
B show road politeness properly
C join in traffic stream quickly however other people feel
D encourage old ladies to cross the roads whenever they want to
3 The underlined word"giveand take" in the passage means
A politeness and impoliteness
B willingness to give in to each other's wishes
C offering help to others as much as possible
D good manners and bad manners
4What is the best title of the passage
A Road politeness
B Traffic problems
C Good manners
D Modern drivers
