SignificantAccomplishments:OrganizationTheSwitchgearCommitteesixtechnicalsubcommittees(HVCircuitBreakers,HVFuses,HVSwitches,LVSwitchgearDevices,RODE[ReclosersandOtherDistributionEquipment],andSwitchgearAssemblies)haveapproximately30activeworkinggroupsortaskforcespreliminarytoformationofworkinggroup.
TheSwitchgearCommitteesponsorsapproximately60standardsandhaveapproximatelyninenewstandardsindevelopment.
Thelistofactiveworkinggroupsfluctuates,withworkinggroupsdisbandedastheirprojectsarecompleted,andwithnewworkinggroupsformingonacontinuingbasis.

TheSwitchgearCommitteeactivelyworkstoharmonizerequirementsinvariousstandardswiththerequirementsoftherelevantIECstandards.
Atpresent,requirementsforHVcircuitbreakersarefundamentallyharmonizedalthoughnotinterchangeablewithIEC.
RequirementsforotherportionsoftheSwitchgearCommitteestandardsareharmonizedwithIECtovaryingdegrees,determinedprimarilybydifferencesintheuserpracticesbetweentheIECandANSI/IEEEmarkets.
TheSwitchgearCommitteeP&PforstandardsdevelopmentwereacceptedbyIEEE-SAinDecember,2012.
TheWorkingGroupP&PwerecreatedusingthePESTechnicalCounciltemplateinSeptember,2013,andfoundtobewithoutissuebyAudComandtheIEEE-SAStandardsBoardinDecember,2013.
TheoperatingproceduresforthecommitteewereapprovedbythecommitteeatitsApril2015meetingandwereapprovedbythePESTechnicalCouncilinAugust,2015.
TheSwitchgearCommitteeP&PwasupdatedintheFallof2017andsenttoAUDCOMforreview/approval.
TedOlsen(ImmediatePastChair)isleadingthatworkfortheCommittee.

BenefitstoIndustryandPESMembersfromtheCommitteeWork:TheSwitchgearCommitteecreatesandmaintainsstandardsthatbenefitthestakeholdersinmanyways,includingthese:Users,producers,testingfirms,andthird-partycertificationbodiesbenefitbyhavingperformancerequirementsthatareconsistentandthatgiveconfidencethatproductscarryingequalratingsexhibitequalperformance.
Usersandproducersbenefitbyhavingknownperformance-orientedrequirementsratherthanroteconstructionmandated(butnotnecessarilyperformance-oriented)requirements.
Thisallowsproducerstointroducenewtechnologiesthatproduceequalperformancewithoutconflictingwitharbitrarystandards-mandatedconstructionrequirements.
