Abstract:MQTTisaClientServerpublish/subscribemessagingtransportprotocol.
Itislightweight,open,simple,anddesignedsoastobeeasytoimplement.
Thesecharacteristicsmakeitidealforuseinmanysituations,includingconstrainedenvironmentssuchasforcommunicationinMachinetoMachine(M2M)andInternetofThings(IoT)contextswhereasmallcodefootprintisrequiredand/ornetworkbandwidthisatapremium.
TheprotocolrunsoverTCP/IP,oroverothernetworkprotocolsthatprovideordered,lossless,bi-directionalconnections.
Itsfeaturesinclude:Useofthepublish/subscribemessagepatternwhichprovidesone-to-manymessagedistributionanddecouplingofapplications.
Amessagingtransportthatisagnostictothecontentofthepayload.
Threequalitiesofserviceformessagedelivery:"Atmostonce",wheremessagesaredeliveredaccordingtothebesteffortsoftheoperatingenvironment.
Messagelosscanoccur.
Thislevelcouldbeused,forexample,withambientsensordatawhereitdoesnotmatterifanindividualreadingislostasthenextonewillbepublishedsoonafter.
"Atleastonce",wheremessagesareassuredtoarrivebutduplicatescanoccur.
"Exactlyonce",wheremessageareassuredtoarriveexactlyonce.
Thislevelcouldbeused,forexample,withbillingsystemswhereduplicateorlostmessagescouldleadtoincorrectchargesbeingapplied.
