TheseDistinguishedServiceawardswerepresentedtoRuthandEvaattheLeadingAgePAannualconferenceinHershey,PA,onJune17.
LeadingAgePAisanassociationofnon-profitseniorserviceorganizationsthatadvocateforpublicpolicyinitiativeswhichsupportindividualrights,qualitycare,equitableaccess,andreimbursementforseniorsthroughoutPennsylvania.
TheVolunteeroftheYearAwardisgiventoanindividualwhohasenhancedthequalityoflifeofseniorsthroughvolunteerworkforthebenefitoftheresidents,memberorganizationand/orthegreatercommunity.
RuthbroughtthesupportgrouptoLandisHomesmorethan25yearsago.
Ruthwasrecognizedforher"tirelessdedicationandcompassionwhosegreatestcontributionisthatofgrassrootsadvocacyandcommunitybuildingwithintheLancasterCountycommunityandsurroundingareas,"accordingtotheawardsprogram.

RecentlytheworkoftwopersonsassociatedwithLandisHomeswashonoredbyLeadingAgePA.
EachJune,LeadingAgePAbringstogethermorethan1,000personstoHershey,PAtosharebestpractices,learnfromexpertsinthefieldandtohonorthosewhoareleaders.
Thisyear,LandisHomeswashonoredtohavebothEvaBeringandRuthJohnsonreceiveawards.
TheleadershipEvahasgiventothecreationandcontinuationofsupportgroups,LandisatHome,AdultDayServices,andtointroductionofPathwaysInstituteforLifelongLearningatLandisHomesshowsthistobetrue.
SheisalwayslookingforwardtoseewhereLandisHomesandtherestofLandisCommunitiescanbemakingadifferenceinthelivesofresidentsandclients.
Ruth'sworkincoordinatingtheParkinson'sSupportGroupthatmeetsatLandisHomeshasbeeninstrumentalinsupportingfamilieswalkingwiththisdisease.
Thegroupgathersmonthlytolearnfromexperts,hearaboutnewresourcesandsharetheirexperiences.
ProvidingmeetingspacefortheParkinson'sSupportGroupisjustoneofanumberofwaysLandisHomesengageswiththecommunityfarbeyondtheresidentpopulation.
OtherexamplesofgroupsbringingpeopletothecampusincludetheMemoryLossSupportGroup,ArthritisAquaticsclassesandPathwaysInstituteforLifelongLearning.
Inaddition,clientsofAdultDayServicesandtheChildren'sLearningCenteralsobringlife,enthusiasmandoccasionallytheirfamilymemberstoLandisHomes.
Providingspaceandsupporttothesegroupshelpsgrowourconnectionstothesurroundingcommunity.
Manytimes,whenImentionmywork,folksrespond"Oh,wecometheretoswimforourArthritis"or"IlovecomingtoyourcampusforPathwaysInstituteclasses.
"TheinteractionsbetweenthesefolksandresidentsatLandisHomeshelpbothgroupsexpandtheirworldsandgrowengagementwitheachotherandteammembers.
ThenewCampusMasterPlanwillbenefitbothresidentsandthesecommunitygroups.
