Inthisstudy,conductingpolymerfilmsweregraftedonasurfaceusingionassisteddeposition(SPIAD)todepositnovelpolythiopheneandpolyphenylthinfilmsbyhypothermalselectionthiophenecationsα–terthiophene(3T)andp-tertphenyl(3p)neutrals.
Theelectronicstructureofthesefilmswasanalyzedusingpolarizednear-edgeX-rayabsorptionfinestructurespectroscopy(NEXAFS)andultravioletphotoelectronspectroscopy(UPS)andwascomparedwithsimilarevaporatedfilms.
TheSPIADmethoddisplaysareductioninbandgap,resultedfromanincreaseintheconjugationlengthandotherchangesinthefilmstructure.
