Amajorityofhomeelectricappliancesarenowremotelyoperablewithremotecontrollers.
Usersthereforeneedtooperateawidevarietyofre-motecontrollerswithdesignsthatvarybymodelandbymanufacturer.
Also,alongwiththesophisticationandfunctionalityoftheappliances,theseremotecontrollersareeachprovidedwithanincreasednumberofoperationbuttons.
Thismakesitmoredifficultforuserstofindthecorrectbuttonfromthemanybuttons.
Further,atelevisionset,forexample,iscommonlyusedcombinedwithotherappliances.
Usersarethenrequiredtomanipulateremotecontrollersforseveralappliancesinthecorrectorder,whilethinkingaboutthenecessaryprocedure.

1IntroductionInrecentyears,manyhouseholdelectricapplianceshavebecomeremotelyoperablebyusinganinfraredremotecontroller,thusincreasinginusability.
However,duetotheincreasednumberofhouseholdelectricappliancesinahouse,usershavetooperateremotecontrollersofvariousdesigns,eachdifferentbymodelandbymanufacturer.
Further,anumberofoperationbuttonslaidonaremotecontrollerhasbeenincreasingasmorefunctionsareaddedtohouseholdelectricappliances,makingitevenmoredifficultforuserstofindatargetbutton.
Aseveryhousehasasmanyremotecontrollersasthenumberofelectricappliancesitowns,findingthecorrectremotecontrollerandappropriatelyusingitarequitetroublesome.
Meanwhile,itisalsodifficultforuserstogetholdofthecurrentoperatingandusestatusesofalltheelectricappliancesinahouse.
Withtheaimofaddressingtheseproblems,weproposeanewGUIdesigninthispaper.
2ObjectivesofThisStudyandProposedSystemTheobjectivesofthisstudyincludeunifyingoperationbuttonsanddesignsofremotecontrollerssothatthenumberofoperationbuttonsisminimizedforusers.
Further,itAutomaticGUIGenerationforHomeElectricAppliancesbyRemoteController687isdesirablethatuserscangetholdofthebehavioralinformationoftheirhouseholdelectricappliancesontheremotecontroller.
Toaddresstheseobjectives,thisstudyproposesthefollowingtwosystems:First,withtheaimofunifyingoperationbuttonsanddesignsofremotecontrollers,physicalbuttonsarechangedtoagraphicalUI(GUI)screen.
Next,byenablingtoreflectthebehavioralandlocationalinformationoftheelectricappliancesonthere-motecontrollerGUIbymeansofZigBeeasthead-hocwirelesscommunicationstan-dard,theminimumrequirednumberofbuttonsaredisplayedfortheelectricappliancethatislocatedclosesttotheusersothattheusercangetitsoperatingstatus.
3ExperimentalDeviceWiththeaimtoverifyeffectivenessofthisproposal,aZigBeemodulewasinstalledontheT-EngineoftheembeddedsystemdevelopmentequipmentmountedwithanLCD,whichwasassumedtoserveasaremotecontrollerwiththead-hocwirelesscommunicationfunctions.
ThreeunitsofZigBeeterminalsthatwereassumedashouseholdelectricapplianceswerelocatedinalaboratory.
TheZigBeemodulecombinedwiththeremotecontrollerservedasthecoordinator,aroundwhichanetworkwasestablished.
Theotherthreeunitsareroutersthroughwhichcommunicationofotherappliancescanpass.
Figure1showsanexternalappearanceoftheexperimentalunit.

Experimentalunitsactuallyused4ExperimentalMethodTheeffectivenessofthisexperimentalsystemwasverified.
First,weconfirmedwhetherornottheiconsfortheappliancethatwaslocatedclosesttotheremotecontrollerwereproperlydisplayed.
Wealsoconfirmed,bytouchingtheicons,whetherornottheoperationscreenofthecorrespondingremotecontrollerwassuccessfullydisplayedintheunifieddesign.
Next,movingaroundinthelaboratoryroom,carryingtheremotecontroller,weconfirmedwhetherornottheicondisplayforeachappliancealsosequentiallychangedinaresponsivemanner.
Further,whentheelectricappliancesthatwereusedcombinedwitheachotherwerelocatedclosetotheremotecontroller,itwasconfirmedwhetherornottheoperationGUIsfortheseelectric688H.

Haseapplianceswerealsodisplayedinacombinedform.
Finally,byswitchingON/OFFtheterminals,weconfirmedwhetherornotthebehavioralinformationdisplaychangesandthepowerLEDoftheZigBeemoduleflashed.

Experimentalmethod5ResultAstheresultoftheexperiment,itwasconfirmedthattheoperationstatusandtheoperationscreenoftheremotecontrollerwerecorrectlydisplayed.
Itwasalsoconfirmedthat,evenwhentheremotecontrollerwasmovedtodifferentplaces,theiconsoftheelectricappliancesweredisplayedintheorderwherethoseclosesttotheremotecontrollerwerepreferentiallylaidout.
Whentheelectricappliancesthatwereusedcombinedwitheachotherwerelocatedclosetotheremotecontroller,theoperationGUIsoftheremotecontrollerweredisplayedcorrectlycombined.
Next,withtheelectricappliancesswitchedON/OFFontheremotecontroller,theoperationstatusdisplaywasalsochanged.
Finally,itwasconfirmedbylighting-upofLEDoftheZigBeemodulethattheelectricapplianceswereoperable.

Inthispaper,weproposedthemethodtodisplaytheminimumrequirednumberofoperationbuttonsforusersontheremotecontrollerGUIscreenoftouch-paneltypeLCDthatisdesignedcommontovariouselectricappliances.
Furtherproposedwasasystemthatcanusedtoconfirm,onaremotecontroller,thebehavioralinformationofeachappliance.
Inordertorealizetheseproposals,bymeansofad-hocwirelesscommunication,wegatheredinformationofthehouseholdelectricappliancesontheremotecontroller.
Then,webuiltanexperimentaldevicefortheexperiment.
Asaresultoftheexperiment,thetargetedobjectiveswereachieved.
