ThetimeconsumingstepofperformingandensuringtrueserializationofproductonamanufacturinglinecanberemovedfromtheproductionflowbyemployingtheCSSeriesSerialEEPROM.
The128-bitserialnumberisprogrammedandpermanentlylockedfromfuturewritingduringtheAtmelproductionprocess.
Further,this128-bitlocationdoesnotconsumeanyoftheuserread/writeareaofthe1-Kbitor2-KbitSerialEEPROM.
TheuniquenessoftheserialnumberisguaranteedacrosstheentireCSSeriesofSerialEEPROMs,regardlessofthesizeofthememoryarrayorthetypeofinterfaceprotocol.
Thismeansthatasanapplication'sneedsformemorysizeorinterfaceprotocolevolveinfuturegenerations,anypreviouslydeployedserialnumberfromanyAtmelCSSeriesSerialEEPROMpartwillremainvalid.
